Recommended interventions that need more evidence:

Self Help (NA- Narcotics Anomyous)
  • 12-Step mutual support programs represent readily available, no cost community-based resources for such individuals; however, practitioners are often unfamiliar with such programs. Measured effectiveness is unknown with this type of intervention. Also, could be effective when paired with other interventions.

Awareness Campaign
  • Social media has been used as a source of awareness campaign for opioids abuse, because it eliminates the geographic and physical access barriers.

  • This intervention was used with an adolescent population. Results revealed that awareness campaigns are necessary but not sufficient on it its own.

Psychosocial
  • Evidence has shown that psychosocial treatments combined with pharmacological treatments are effective.

  • However, psychosocial treatments are not effective by themselves. There are multiple types of psychosocial treatment, and some are more effective than others.
